Information provision of tourism activity (essay)

ESSAYsTOURISMInformation provision of tourism activity

During this practical work, I learned more about the information provision of tourism activities, about the various systems and tools that make it easier to work in this business. Also, he learned to quickly and effectively search any information on the Internet.

Information services are needed both for tourists and organizers of tourism.

The tourist, while preparing for and during the trip, needs additional information about the place of residence, norms, rules and customs of the locality and country, a detailed description of the monuments, schemes and maps, schemes of the highways. It is worth recalling that the first guides were issued over 200 years ago.

Travel descriptions are issued in the form of popular and special literature. In the modern tourism industry, great attention is devoted to the publication of bright booklets, avenues, which are distributed free of charge to potential tourists.

The tourist industry generates about three to six times more ads than any other. All major tourist centers issue information CDs for tourists and tourism workers.

Of great importance are modern electronic media, for example, the Internet, many thousands of sites which offer users a detailed description of tourist centers, tourist services, attractions, and even virtual travel, for example, electronic museum exhibits. On the Internet you can not only choose your travel and travel agency, but also book a tourist trip, tickets, pay for services.

The Internet system is necessary for the work of any tourist organization. Each firm can create its own WEB-page, which contains all the information about this company: its offers, details, etc.

Tourism organizers use a wide range of information services. When creating a tourist product, they are studying special professional guides. The World Travel Guide, which has reissued the Columbus Press publishing house for two years, contains detailed descriptions of the same patterns across 200 countries, tourist centers and territories. There are also various catalogs of travel agencies and tour operators, schedules of traffic of different countries and even the world. Such schedules are available electronically on CDs, as well as in global global information systems, automated reservation systems for tourist services (Amadeus, Saber, etc.).

Computer reservation system is required for the international tourist market. Computer technology in tourism is used to collect not only external information, but also for the analysis of internal information, as well as for the creation of a management information system «SUI».

Management has its own sources of information, and each firm, with the help of the VSI at 3 levels, uses a computer to conduct a comprehensive management process.

1) strategic management of the firm;

2) corporate management of the firm;

3) production management.

Of great importance are tourist specialized exhibitions. The tourist exhibitions are intended mainly for wholesale sales of tourist product. Such exhibitions, usually bright and crowded, take 4-5 days. The largest tourist exhibition in Europe — the Berlin Tourist Exchange (Germany) — is being held in early March (it attracts up to 60 participants, an area of 160 thousand square meters).

Software for automating the technology of the tour operator and travel agent.

The main task of the tour operator is the formation of tourist products. Tourist products are formed by a sample of data from all kinds of directories and classifiers. Information in directories is formed according to the terms of contracts with the host party or with hotels. As new information comes in (new hotels, special offers, sales stops) these guides are replenished.

On the basis of completed directories, packages are formed. In this case, the manager responsible for the formation of the package must have a tool that allows the use of different pricing schemes for different objects (for example, have different prices for different groups of hotels, flights, set different leverage and discounts of different partners). With all the diversity of possible options, this tool should provide full transparency of information for finance professionals. For each application and in any of their aggregates it becomes clear: what is the income of the tour operator, how much he is to blame for each supplier of services, which percentage will receive travel agency. The work of this volume requires significant resources, and solving it without the use of modern computer technology companies, which sends at least 10,000 tourists per season, is simply unrealistic.

After the packages are formed and ready for sale, they come to the realization. Here it should be noted that for a small travel agency, the rate of application is not critical, and for the operator tour it is a real advantage.

Increasing the speed of processing applications is provided by the following paths.

First, this is the functionality of the software: duplication of the same type of applications (only need to correct the names), the use of ready-made packages (as in the case of travel agencies), a convenient and intuitive-understandable interface.

Second, it is an opportunity to transfer applications, issued by travel agencies, directly into the internal system of the tour operator.

There are 3 options to solve this problem:

The first is the creation of an off-line system. In this case, the travel agency fills in the application form, located on the tour operator’s site. This application falls into the mail system of the operator’s tour, from which it is transmitted directly to its database.

The second option — the creation of a full-fledged e-store. In this case, the agency is only available to existing tour operator offers. In addition, such a system must be implemented search for proposals operator tour on all necessary criteria. The application is made in such a system, gets directly into the tour operator’s database.

The third option, in our opinion, takes into account both the interests of the operator’s tour and the interests of the agency. The tour operator on your site offers agencies an additional service — the opportunity to select and download price data (including special offers). In addition, the tour operator can send their special offers to an online resource that combines data from many tour operators. The selected data can be downloaded by the travel agency in its agent software. The application, drawn up and stored by the agency in its software, is also stored in the database of the tour operator. In cases where an on-line booking system is used, after submitting an application, the travel agency may review the status of its applications (confirmed, paid, canceled) on the tour operator’s site. Thus, for the purpose of obtaining information on the status of the application, the agency may once again not disturb the managers by telephone questions.

Today there is practically no tour of firms that do not use computer technology in their daily activities. They are actively developing the latest information technology — for example, they open their own websites on the Internet, through which the client can not only view the information that he was interested in, but also immediately send a reservation request for a product that liked it. The order comes directly to the sales manager.

So, today, when information technology provides opportunities for more efficient business development, managers need to use them as a springboard for higher levels of business.
